Running first came into my life roughly a decade ago. When registering for seventh-grade classes, I made the (seemingly) inconsequential decision to choose cross-country for my athletics credit. The main reason? I just wanted to have something in common with my friends, most of whom were runners. Sometimes, I find it hard to fathom that this one, small decision has led me to where I am today.
As my first cross-country season came to an end, I realized that I had fallen in love with running. I eagerly joined a local club team; and found that with someone to focus on my individual strengths and weaknesses, I was able to improve quickly.
Over the next few years, I began to notice that my consistency was paying off! As a freshman, I placed 15th at the UIL 5A cross-country state meet. Although I was happy with this result, I was keen on getting closer to the podium. In my sophomore year, I improved my 5k PR and ended up placing 5th at the state meet.
I planned to continue cross-country and track at the collegiate level, but ended up fracturing my spine during the recruiting process. During my time off, I realized that - although I still loved running - I wanted to attend college as a student, not a student-athlete.
Ultimately, I ended up pursuing a degree in neurobiology at the University of Wisconsin (go Badgers)! During my studies, I found that my enthusiasm for all things science had slowly seeped its way back into the running sphere: I became passionate about understanding the physiological principles that underlie different training philosophies, recovery techniques, gear, and more. This interest led me to coaching, where I now find an immense sense of fulfillment in helping athletes achieve their goals. From this, RunningDTX was born.
